The 2018 vintage marks the third release of our eight-year passion play known as Eight Years in the Desert. The next year, 2000, was another difficult year, much like 1998. 8 Years in the Desert is named after the first short story from Phinney's book. The story goes that when winemaker extraordinaire, David Phinney, sold the incredibly popular 'Prisoner' brand of wines to a huge beverage conglomerate, they had him sign an eight year non-compete specifying that he would not produce another, similar Zinfandel blend.
