Of the seven, only Jack declines to go, as every other member of the clique, except for Jessica, believes he killed Heather (the murder weapon was found in his room), though he wasn't convicted of the crime. This brooding book exemplifies so much of what I love about dark academic suspense: its authentic and immersive university setting provides the perfect competitive, pressure-cooker environment for its compelling cast of characters and increasingly urgent central mystery. Together they were close to each other but Jessica always felt inferior to the other girls in her group. Of you're into books with a dark academia setting and a kick ass mystery, read this book NOW 😍. This one was probably the most balanced I've read. They all had some twisted motivations and dark things they are hiding. The characters were so well-developed, their heart's desires and flaws were laid bare for all to see. I'm looking forward to reading more thrillers by Ashley Winstead:). All of the boys meshed in my mind and there were a few times I had to step back and think, "Okay, who is this again? This book was fast-paced and kept you guessing - all the characters are well fleshed-out, and though it is a mystery/thriller, there are aspects of it that go far deeper into examining interpersonal relationships, and that is one of the most successful driving forces of this book. Narrated by Vanessa Johansson, the author kept me guessing as we attended the ten-year college reunion of Jessica Miller and her friends. Someone closer to the characters' ages would likely have a much easier time settling into this story, but for me, it took longer than average. Those parts could have flowed a little more fluidly, but overall not a huge con and the book is really good overall! Right yet, her life is going exactly as she hoped- which is a far cry from how her college journey ended!
This book was unputdownable! I love stories about old friends coming together when there are secrets to deal with, and I thought the characters were so well-drawn. Now she is an Upper East Side girl named partner at one of the most sought after positions at a consulting company in NYC. The tale that unfolds was addictive, cruel, calculated, and filled with unexpected twists. This story thrillingly captures those exact imperfections the untouchable people desperately try to hide. And they plan to force a confession from the killer and to reveal everyone's secrets. I couldn't get enough of all the juicy drama and suspense.
Like, Mint and Frankie I can understand. Overall, this is a good debut thriller, and I would be willing to read more from this author. Read this WAY past my bedtime. She's got the perfect job, perfect looks, perfect everything, and she's sure everyone will be awed by her perfectness. This book starts a bit slow but then picks up speed all the while managing to keep and increase the interest of the readers.
