What Does Dwell Meter Actually Measure

'68 bug: seized by the authorities. My two meters gave me 54 + 56 degrees (cold), so both work. Can anyone give me advice on how to use this thing and where to connect the two leads? When you connect the dwell meter and turn on the ignition switch, with the points closed, the meter pointer should settle in the black bar.

Alot of FLAPS rent tools for a deposit. I can not measure rpms.... does anyone know how to hook this up? The meter should agree with the specifications. This doesn't seem to agree with my engine.

On your tester the black lead goes to ground, the red lead went to the tach lead on your coil. That is why timing is the last thing to be set in a tune-up. That's an old one, used to have one a long time ago.
