— Residents of Carthage living along the route for Saturday's annual Maple Leaf Parade are marking their territory, making sure that, come Saturday morning, they've got the best view on the block. The parade, Leann and I went to eat lunch and then walked around the festival just to have a. good time together. Visitors can sample various types of brats at the Brats on the Square Event, enjoy a pancake breakfast at the Pancake Feeding and sip on local and regional wines at the Wine Festival. It features marching bands, floats representing local businesses, the Maple Leaf Royal Court and various regional and national performers. On Thursday, those living on Grand Avenue started setting up lawn chairs and marking off street-side sections in front of their homes. In years past, the prep work that went into claiming a good viewing location was done the day before the Maple Leaf Festival, but now, residents along the parade route say if they don't section off viewing areas several days ahead of time, they'll most likely risk losing a great vantage point. But the hallmark event of the festival is the parade, touted as the biggest in southwest Missouri. It's a bold witnessing. The YMCA 5k will begin at 6pm, along with the Car Show Cruise in around the square from 5pm-9pm.
