What began as a story about a bookworm, giving in and reading a book turned into a journey of self-discovery and forgiveness and realizing what really matters in life. He was amazing as little kid/adolescent Jase, but I didn't really like him as an adult. 'Swear on This Life' was consuming, though-provoking and such an emotional read from the very beginning until the end. They reunite and after dealing with some major baggage left over from the past, they get a HFN ending. This author always has a way with words, but she truly outdid herself with this story. After reading Before We Were Strangers, Renée Carlino automatically became one of my favorite romance authors. By the end of the first chapter she is sobbing and can't catch her breath. The story is of two children that grow up in really unfavorable environments, and find happiness in each other.

But at that point, I had only skimmed the blurb and I had no preconceived notions, no expectations. I loved how Renee Carlino intertwined the lives of the characters in a way that is not in the usual course of a novel. I don't think there was a single thing about this book that I did not love - that did not reach me or speak to me on every level. I loved the relationship between these two main characters. I mentioned that Swear on This Life was empowering. The way that aspect of the story was so much more than just a way to showcase the past, pure genius. It was quite an emotional and heart-breaking journey and we absolutely loved Harbor and Lark's relationship which was a wonderful combination of friendship and romance, loyalty, and sacrifice. Angry that she hasn't seen or heard from him in over a decade. There's so much right with this book. I love an epic love.
