Water Pump Mounting Bolts
Snapped only one motorbike headbolt once in those years.. Dec 8, 2015 06:56 AM. The Yamaha shop manual does not show the torque value for the 4 water pump housing bolts. I use the justabouta method. Having trouble posting or changing forum settings? Or, you could download the factory manual from the link that Jimbo has in his sig, or there may be a link for it in the FAQ as well. So my questions: What is the torque for these bolts, and any advice to 1) keep the threads from stripping, and 2) keep them from coming loose again? FIXITUPCHAP INCORPORATED. So the final torque should be 24N. I figured it wouldn't be good to torque to 40 ft-lbs and then back off to 17 ft-lbs if 17 is the correct number. "If it jams, force it. And even THAT might be too much. Besides having the bolts and threads, nice and clean, can you, Rodbolt, post what YOU torque them to, if you use loctite, or a touch/anti-seize of oil to prevent seizing, etc). The old bolts had lock washers on them and the new bolts don't. 2 size bolts on my water pump 10 mm and 13 mm -wrench size- Bolt size-M6 and M8 respectively ~M6-6-8 ft lbs, - M8-17-20 ft lbs. Just get them tight and then add a little umpff.

I have never used a torque wrench for anything except bearing caps, head bolts, crankshaft pulley nuts/bolts, and axle nuts. If so, what color is it I use? Sounds kinda sketchy. I'll try to answer the comments: yes I'm probably obsessing on this torque, but I haven't done this before and I don't want to have a leaking pump after the radiator is in and I'm on the road someplace. On this engine I thought only the volute size differed, a common bit of knowledge. I'm getting ready to install the new water pump on my Ranger 3. To quote from the movie The Outlaw Josey Wales, "I don't want to hear Josey Wales dead, I want to see Josey Wales dead". Also some of the bolts had sealant on them and appear to go into the crankcase. The bolts are different sizes but the larger ones are almost 5/16" and 7 ft/lbs sounds to light. According to service manual, I should tighten bolts in two stages: first 12N. Re: 351 water pump bolt torque. Grade and size of bolt are of primary importance. I get this from engineers all the time, they are worse at, sitting at desk doesn't count for this, on experience of turning a wrench (OK I know I will get a PM from Mr. Tanner on that comment) Be open minded and heed advice from people who have walked down the path hundreds of times, that you now are embarking for first time. 105 inch pounds is less than 9 foot pounds, so yes that should be correct if it came out of the manual.
