I wasn't too worried about the air coming into the engine, but I did notice that some of the clamps were loose on the tubing coming from the air box, I tighten them up just in case. First of the injectors. Yeah... we are only getting AC Delco parts from now on... Now it widens way out as to what it could be. I'm kinda stumped, I don't see why it all of a sudden it would not start after sitting. Also, disconnect the battery for a week or two and the trouble codes go away and I have never seen the pcm set any trouble codes beyond the CPS if the engine won't run. My buddy has now saved up a little bit of money. My next steps was to check spark. The PCM commands the module to fire the ignition coil, and if the coil is producing spark, it's probably not the module. 97 5.7 Vortec won't start. I have a friend that has a scanner, just the problem is getting up with him. Alright here my story. From here you have a few possibilities left. HAS.......................... a crank sensor my 97 has one you self (and me) and look at the passengers side of the crank right behind the ballancer and there you WILL find a crank sensor!!!!!!! Moving the distributor around changes the cam timing. Like the rotor, if it is old and worn out, it is usually best to replace it. Keep in mind while rare, sometimes a spark can be seen but is weak, which can cause no-start issues. They burn and then ignition signal confirmation does not get back to the ECM. I replaced the fuel filter and still the same, looked at the crankshaft position sensor and it seemed fine. I also checked the fuses and all light up but what I did find is a manufacturer defect on my plug wires and all of them are arcing on the exhaust manifolds. There is one guy who says he has replaced nearly a dozen ignition switches in GMs for this exact problem. Ended up pulling up the upper intake and found a few leaking lines and a little puddle of fuel in the intake, yet the data in the Modus said all ok and we followed the test instuctions that are in the modus. Brand new here, guys, and I am hoping for some help because this truck is driving me crazy. 7 fired up first time but felt like it was running on like 3 cylinders, i was getting spark, good fuel pressure but it was just missing and ran terrible. But my newborn twins are 6 weeks old today. Get everything back in hooked up.

Unbolt the steering shaft from the gear box, and move the shaft aside, takes 5 minutes. Was the ignition control module replaced as well? Long story short, I have replaced the fuel pump, distributor, cap and rotor, plugs and wires, timing chain and gears, crank sensor, coil, ignition control module, and the ECM and still nothing. Good spark at the coil, but bad spark at the spark plug. The 98, BTW, is a distributor ignition, so it has no position sensors. Its that kind of sound... maybe not as loud (could just be drowned out by engine cranking). If you say your injectors are spraying, then the plugs should be wet, if they are dry, the intake valves aren't opening (snapped camshaft). Why wouldn't it start even though it had spark? If you're getting a spark at the coil but a no spark condition for the engine, this is a sign the spark plugs or wires around them are the issue. My guess is that the original problem is still there, and it is coincidence that it started and ran for a couple days. Just for grins, I checked the operation of the pump relay. I have my doubts, but he says it is a fuel pump issue. Not Allowed: to reply. The tool detects digital signals in a circuit and flashes an LED light. Without any codes it is real hard to pinpoint the issue without a little guessing.
