Could you rock a red cape in real life? It's not exactly in the best of taste, which is kind of a wink to that suburban vibe that The Witch had in the beginning when she's talking about her neighbors crawling over her fence and all that. "Into the Woods" and "Big Eyes" are both in theaters now. Luckily, here we have both, plus Atwood's incredibly talented skills.

In "Into the Woods, " the Stephen Sondheim musical adaptation starring the likes of Meryl Streep, Johnny Depp, James Corden, Anna Kendrick and Emily Blunt, all of the fairytale characters go into that titular forest to find the things they wish for most -- a child for the Baker and his wife, a chance to go to the ball for Cinderella, a way to grandmother's house for Little Red, and so on. So I found this gold fabric that was just enough to make the multiples and everything I had to make in it, but it took me a while to just get it how I wanted it to be -- a little bit of her mother and a little bit of her and the princess that's kind of a punked-out and modern, like, "Do I really want to be a princess? " This first ensemble is inspired by the witch herself, and while her spooky garb may not seem like a practical look for college girls, we've reinterpreted it into a dark yet glam look.

I did sort of the birth of farce in [the stepmother and stepsisters'] costumes and then Cinderella's kind of went into that world, but they all had a modern twist to them. Start by tucking a white peasant blouse into an olive green skirt, then add a pair of neutral-toned flats. Fiona: Bashful, a Dwarf Bird. In fact, when I was in high school, I just may have been a total Les Miserables geek. This post will feature outfits inspired by a few of the female characters from the film; The Witch, played by Meryl Streep, the Baker's Wife, played by Emily Blunt, Cinderella, played by Anna Kendrick, and Rapunzel, played by MacKenzie Mauzy. Everyone went into the woods, some people, like The Witch, were of the woods -- so I used all the textures from trees and the light and dark of the forest as some of the inspiration and for the patterning and the surface of the costumes. The costume was very tight, but I got used to it because I wore it a lot. It was heavy, but we had a carabiner inside, which I attached to the hook, so it took the weight off. How did you go about making sure all the costumes tied together? Johnny Depp, who plays The Wolf — and is dressed in a 1940s-era zoot suit — was inspired by 40s animation and the wolf created by animator and cartoonist Tex Avery. At least in the West, we're raised on fairytales. Anna Kendrick's Cinderella dress wasn't typical, what was the thought process behind it? The singing was passable on the part of the performers. I felt like for me, each fairy tale is set in a world -- like [Johnny] and Little Red's was in that '30s, Swing kind of vibe costuming. The Cinderella world I set in the 18th century just because it's so great, when I saw them rehearse I thought "Oh, these kinds of clothes, doing this work with the movement and the singing will be hilarious. " I mined the texture of her Witch's dress but took it to a whole new -- what somebody would think in that mindset, trying to get inside her head a little bit, what The Witch would think was beautiful - a version of her dress but in blue, with bigger sleeves and a tighter waist and the hair and the makeup and the nails, something she thinks she daughter would think would be beautiful, so she'd be proud of her instead of ashamed of her. I used a textural thing and a pallet that fit in with the woods, and it just happened to work out like a world together. But apparently Sondheim had run out of ideas for melodies, because I REALLY felt like it was one interminable song that never resolved, never crescendoed, never finished, NEVER EVER EVER. He didn't want "Into the Woods" to "look like a cartoon world, " he said, and added that the creative team wanted to feel "a sense of danger. Cinderella costume worn by Anna Kendrick. Keep things chic and streamlined with opaque black tights and classic black heels. But hair and makeup, to hide my real hair, was about four hours every day. We carry a wide variety of fairytale costumes, makeup, and accessories that are perfect for characters like Portia, Joy, Prince Christopher, and Cinderella herself. Devyn: Mysterious Man. It was a very fast process to get up and running, so in that way I had a lot less lead time in the sense of design.

Paola: Princess Belle. In this story she came from her mother, the willow tree, so I used the colours of the willow tree - the soft greens with a little bit of gold highlights, so it could flutter in the night like a bird wing which you saw little bits of as she ran away. Phoebe: Lucinda, a Stepsister. "Big Eyes" is the 10th film you've done with Burton -- it's obviously a partnership that's worked well for both of you. Meryl wants it to work as a costume. I really love it, the outfit is perfect and it fits so well. Haley: Little Bo Peep. While the Witch's dress was long, we opted for a shorter dress paired with cool printed tights and sleek black booties.

The performances were very good! This movie musical brings together everyone from Cinderella and Rapunzel to Little Red Riding Hood and Jack from Jack and the Beanstalk into one fun-filled movie. I did an early sketch of The Wolf where I had the bottom half wasn't like a zoot pant, it was more like a britches, like kneepads from the 18th century, just because -- you know how wolves have those strong hind legs? Climbing the [Rapunzel] hair was tough, but it was cool. An outfit inspired by the Witch would look fab on a winter night out – especially if you want to embrace your edgy side. I had it leftover from another show. Though Cinderella's corset probably isn't ideal for a day filled with classes, you can incorporate those brown tones found in her look with a brown belt worn over the waistband of the skirt, as well as a brown braided headband. Aimee: Melinda, a Stepsister. The dress fit like a glove, and putting it on, I felt like a princess! MacKenzie Mauzy (Rapunzel): "One of my favorite parts about the film was to work with Colleen Atwood. To recreate the look of Rapunzel's dress, tuck a feminine pink blouse into a light pink textured maxi skirt. I had to be able to lunge in leather pants. Were the dress and the hair a lot of work? For the Baker and his wife, were you thinking Bruegel?
