Given the multiple characters and storylines, how do such feelings transcend the characters' stories in the novel and reflect back on to the readers? As usual, however, the author has created compelling characters who are magnetic and sympathetic enough to pull readers in. At the heart of the novel is Violette's relationship with Philippe Toussaint, a man who will become her husband. And maybe this is a case of shooting the messenger, but I also cannot get on board with her apparent belief of what makes a perfect man. How does a person move on from all consuming grief? " Whatever I sowed, I could feel it. A lot is going on as themes are explored and sometimes feel like they are quietly weaved together and then become busy with the various narratives and plot strands.

How was the cemetery kept ship shape? They promise each other they will one day leave their provincial backwater, move to Paris, and never part. I feel as though I spent the last 30 years in central and southern France with these characters. Or learn anything new? As Kenna and Ledger continue to mourn for Scotty, they also grieve the future they cannot have with each other. I was learning a subtle lesson from the intricate lush details - about how to live fully immersed with what so many others have kept silent. You have your stories. In addition to grief, the novel also deftly explores complex issues such as guilt, self-doubt, redemption, and captivating dialogue, angst-y characters, and a couple of steamy sex scenes, Hoover has done it again. Once upon a time she married, and had a child, but now lives alone. With an exquisite pen Valérie Perrin explores the intricacies of life in its finest details. Exceptional in everyway, Three is a wonderful investment of your time. She knew almost every dead person, their location, their death, everything. I will just say, if you are the print. Violette, conscientious, shoulders the responsibilities as Philippe strays. Violette is an engaging, likable narrator in the best way and easy to sympathize with. Interconnected and all tangible in the same way, whether my lived experience or not, the style of writing was captivating. Dana stuck with the audio but neither of us really loved this one. From here the book begins a descent downwards and downwards and downwards. A detective's arrival, early in the novel, offers a plot strand of its own and offers keys to Violette's own tragedy that, once resolved, is hugely satisfying. Did the story inspire me? It soon becomes clear that the grave Julien is looking for belongs to his mother's one-time lover, and that his mother's story of clandestine love is intertwined with Violette's own secret past. In Violette, Perrin has crafted a strong character who lives with joy and sorrow at the same time; despite a difficult childhood and marriage, she is surrounded by good people who recognize her strength and capacity for love.
